Upcoming Teleconferences and
Educational Opportunities
The following is information on upcoming satellite broadcasts/webcasts or training sessions scheduled for the month of May. These programs address different aspects of Emergency Preparedness and Response that may be of interest to you. For an in-depth summary and understanding of Bio-Terrorism, go to http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/ics/index.html
Another excellent online source for information concerning bio-terrorism and related training is http://www.bt.cdc.gov/ a link from the CDC website. A previously broadcast program entitled "The Historical Roots of Bioterrorism and Implications for the Future" sponsored through the Alabama Department of Public Health is now available on webcast at www.adph.org/apht.
A new publication is now available to Maine and it’s preparedness community, entitled Emergency Preparedness Monthly . This free monthly newsletter is designed to be a resource for a regional audience of public health, healthcare, public safety, and emergency response practitioners throughout Maine, as well as state and local leaders interested in protecting the public’s health. It includes a digest of select news stories and commentaries, links to relevant resources, and a listing of upcoming preparedness-related trainings and events. The goal of this publication is to provide a central forum for disseminating useful, current, and succinct preparedness information to busy professionals in Maine. Already, over 1000 public health preparedness personnel in Maine receive this publication. A simple email puts you on the list to receive this publication every month. Please visit epmonthly@hsph.harvard.edu and sign up at the bottom of the newsletter.
As some of you might know the Maine Center for Public Health is in the process of updating the training plan for public health emergency preparedness that was developed in 2003. Karen O’Rourke and Viki Wills from the Maine Center for Public Health have reviewed the 2003 document and have been holding strategic planning meetings for input into upgrading the new plan. The current idea is to use the existing document for the base for developing the new plan. The center has held several meetings to brainstorm and to discuss implementation strategies. Your input and ideas into this plan are critical to the success of our upcoming 2006-2008 training program. Please take a few minutes to review the current plan and contact the MCPH or your local Resource Center with any suggestions or concerns.
